My specialties are in clinical psychological assessment and psychotherapy with men and women with affective disorders (depression, or uni-polar, and bipolar disorder), women who have post-partum depression, and people with the complicated effects of trauma (PTSD). I consult with individuals who are over the age of 18; and in psychotherapy groups for people who are past the age of 25.
I was trained in the early 1970’s in the physiology and neurology of human development as a pediatric nurse practitioner; so as a clinical psychologist I have varied experience in how and why we humans behave in the ways that we do. I have had many years of experience in in-patient hospital practice and work with people who have chronic mental illness.
I have extensive training in the psychodynamic psychotherapy modality. I consider psychotherapy to be a therapeutic relationship between you and me. Together, we investigate what things in life are working for you, and which aren’t; and sort through the "how come" of it all, so that you have more knowledge about yourself and increased freedom to make informed choices.
As an educator in human development, I do not lead in your process of discovery, but encourage curiosity and investigation. I ask and invite questions, and have a responsibility to share with you my own observations and thoughts as we work together during the psychotherapy process.
I am a certified group psychotherapist, and direct two weekly psychodynamic psychotherapy groups for adults. The first is a group for women over forty who struggle with their individual development vis-a-vis relationships with others: family, friends, and work. The other group is for people over 30 years old who want to better understand themselves, discover why they behave in the ways that they do, and examine the parts that they play in relationships with other people. Some members in these groups may have a history of depression or bipolar disorder. People who have gay and lesbian relationships have also been members in these groups.
